It’s Our Favorite Holiday of the Year … Energy Efficiency Day!

Friends -- one of the most exciting, most important holidays of the year is just around the corner.

Hallowe’en, you ask?

No.

Nor is it Thanksgiving, though that’s a good one too.

It’s Energy Efficiency Day!

Yes, you read that right and yes, it exists. I know - I was shocked too.

But also so happily surprised! If we make such a hoopla about spooks and ghouls, I think it makes absolute sense to also have a day dedicated to reminding ourselves of the importance of conserving our planet’s natural resources.

And unlike some other holidays, we don’t have to spend the next day with a candy or turkey-induced hangover!

Here at OhmConnect we’re celebrating by giving YOU some sweet incentives on products that will make it easier for you to conserve all year round, and even earn extra money during #OhmHours. (Have you heard the news that that folks who have connected a smart home device like a smartplug or smart thermostat earn, on average, two times as much as those who unplug manually during OhmHours? It’s true!)

Maximize your impact this Energy Efficiency Day

Unlike Thanksgiving or Hallowe’en, you likely won’t be bombarded with ideas of how to best celebrate this special day on Pinterest, or when you walk into the Dollar Store. So here are some other ideas to throw into the mix!

  1. Make the switch to LEDs – You can even start small! Replace 5-10 incandescent bulbs at home or at the office.
  1. Update or maintain your HVAC system and thermostat. (I know, it’s not NEARLY as exciting as a craft project making turkeys out of pinecones, but I promise, it’s worth it!  Replace outdated heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems with more efficient models, and consider upgrading your old thermostat to a newer, smarter model like the Nest Learning Thermostat that learns your habits and adjusts your home’s temperature to save you as much energy (and money!) as possible.
  1. If you plan to buy new appliances or electronics, choose ENERGY STAR® products.  Upgrade your least efficient appliance or system with a high-efficiency version. Check out options at https://www.energystar.gov/products

Still jones’ing for some kind of Instagram-worthy snack to help commemorate the day? Me too. These no-bake energy bites from blogger Gimme Some Oven are the perfect fuel for when you’re craving a healthy snack but you’re powered down during an #OhmHour.

Honestly, Greg and I are hooked on them.
