If you’re anything like me, when you heard about OhmConnect’s referral challenge, with a $1,000 cash prize, you may have assumed that the top referrer would be a hustling salesperson who netted hundreds of new signups in order to nab the title.

In actuality? The prize was very attainable and went to Jan P. of Pleasant Hill, CA and their small community of cohousing neighbors. An OhmConnect member for just over a year, Jan noticed the referral contest in his email inbox and pitched the idea to the other residents of their cohousing community.

“I figured if enough of my neighbors signed up, we had a good chance of winning.”

Sending a quick email around to the community’s email listserv, Jan informed their neighbors about the free program that will reward them for saving energy when it’s most expensive and most polluting – and their chance to win their community a $1,000 prize, plus another $40 for each successful referral, netting $1,663 which they plan to gift to their community.

The community of 44 adults and 20 children banded together to register for the program, deciding to put their prize winnings towards a much-needed renovation.

“We are undergoing a major re-piping project so anything extra funds we can raise from signing up for OhmConnect will be a very much appreciated additional support.”

After chatting with the OhmConnect Customer Experience team on a number of occasions to help their neighbors get fully connected to the program, Jan considers themselves the resident OhmConnect inspiration and is looking forward to the next time a referral contest is held.

“When is this thing happening again? I’m ready to do it again!”
