Small tweaks to their home cooling won this Bakersfield family a $3,500 prize

Dahna R. from Bakersfield, CA was shocked to find out that she was OhmConnect’s latest major prize winner, scoring her family a trip to Universal Studios (which they took as the $3,500 cash prize.)

“I honestly couldn’t believe it,” she said. “We don’t ever actually win these kinds of things.”

With more than 200,000 Watts racked up in her account, Dahna gave the OhmConnect Wheel a few spins to see what would come her way -- and luck was on her side!

Small adjustments make a big difference

While you may think that to earn 200,000 Watts you’d have to be a dedicated OhmConnect super-user, this isn’t the case for Dahna and her family.

“Really all we do is turn off the air conditioner when an OhmHour comes our way. I’m already a bit of a stickler about keeping lights and appliances turned off when we’re not using them so making sure our A/C is off is our go-to standard practice.”

An OhmConnect customer for more than two years, Dahna says that her three teenage and pre-teen kids often don’t even notice when an OhmHour is happening.

“As long as I don’t take their electronics away  -- and mostly those are mobile devices -- they don’t have a problem with it. A few times my husband has come home and noticed the house being not quite as cool as normal but I tell him it’s only for an hour and we’ll survive.”

Participating for the sake of the planet

“I recognize the environmental condition we’re in,” Dahna shared. “Especially here in California with the fires, I want to do what I can. If this is what I can do to help, I’m willing to do this. It’s my responsibility to do this.”

“If I can shut my appliances off for an hour so that someone with a medical condition doesn’t get their power shut off, I’m going to do that.”

Thank you and congratulations, Dahna - we’re proud you’re part of the OhmConnect community!
