For San Diego resident Tori R, saving energy around the house was a *lot* easier before COVID came along.

An OhmConnect customer for more than three years, Tori and her family would routinely schedule nights out of the house on OhmHour nights, powering down their entire home and going out for a meal. Since March 2020 however, meals out aren’t an option and they’ve had to get creative when it’s time to use less power.

“These days mostly we just try and go for a walk and get some fresh air,” she said on a phone call this week. “We turn everything off in our house and get out, even if it’s just in our neighborhood.”

The golden ticket that’s meant they continue to beat their energy goals and even scored them a major prize?

Smart home technology.

Smart plugs and thermostats power down automatically

Tori and her family have made the smart move to connect their smart thermostat and a few smart plugs to their OhmConnect account -- which means they power down automatically when an OhmHour or AutoOhm comes their way.

“We’re all about smart home technology,” she said with a laugh. “Sometimes I think we even have too many gadgets, but they’ve paid off!”

OhmConnect customers with smart home devices connected to their OhmConnect account earn ~3x on average the amount of rewards as customers with no devices connected. Don’t have a device connected yet? Connect your first one now!

Her big win

Those little smart plugs MORE than paid for themselves when Tori’s name was called as the winner of a Prize OhmHour giveaway - a “She Shed”, or the cash prize equivalent of $4000.

“I honestly couldn’t believe it!” she said. “I know everyone says this but I am really not the person who ever wins contests so it was a great surprise when I heard my name called.”

Congratulations Tori and thanks for being part of the OhmConnect community!
