Low on time? Want the biggest bang for your buck? Opt in to “MEGA Only” #OhmHours
In a recent survey of our users, we got feedback that some folks would be interested in having fewer #OhmHours each month, which pay more than a normal #OhmHour. We're in the process of building out a simplified OhmConnect experience just like that and the first step is a new feature called MEGA Only, which you can get access to right now.
If you switch to this version of the OhmConnect experience, you'll only receive MEGA #OhmHours, which happen when the grid is especially stressed — about once per month in the off-season and 2+ times per month during the summer.
We now understand recognize that not all users want to participate for prizes. To allow those users to stay connected, we are offering a new setting called MEGA Only which will allow you to only participate in events with higher need and bigger payout opportunities. These are likely to occur around once per month through May. You'll preserve your streak, but keep in mind that by selecting this option means you will not receive any prize or regular #OhmHours. You can of course switch back to other options at any time.
Remember: MEGA #OhmHours happen when the grid is more stressed. They come less frequently, will pay more, but you'll need to reduce more energy during the event to earn those rewards. Want a refresher on how MEGA #OhmHours work? Click here.
We have been hearing and understanding your frustrations during the off-season — after having numerous opportunities to earn points and bonuses over the summer, the fall and winter months may have felt a bit uninspiring. We want to explain why this is happening, and let you know that it won't last forever!
The amount the grid pays OhmConnect for your energy reductions fluctuates with the seasons. On hot summer days when the grid is stressed, the payouts are high. But when overall energy usage is more moderate (between October and May), the payouts from the grid are very low. Our service matches those cycles: higher payouts in the summer, and lower payouts in the winter. That's why we shift to more Prize #OhmHours and fewer MEGA #OhmHours during the offseason.
When you're part of the MEGA Only experience, you'll only receive MEGA #OhmHours. You won't get regular #OhmHours for points or prizes. We'll only ask you to reduce when the grid really needs it. You'll need to dig deep and reduce your energy usage by a lot, but you'll get more rewards for your deep reductions.
From your account’s Settings page, go to the #OhmHour Notifications section and click the "#OhmHours per Week" dropdown. Select the "MEGA only" option at the bottom.
