If you’ve been an OhmConnect customer for a long time, you’re no stranger to MEGA Summer: the most valuable time to earn big cash rewards for your energy savings and the most critical moment when we, together, can have the biggest impact on California’s shared environment.
With dangerous heat and catastrophic wildfires hitting the news more than ever, there’s never been a better time to take tangible actions to prevent further climate crisis.
MEGA #OhmHours are one of the easiest possible ways to cut your carbon emissions, and earn BIG rewards at the same time.
… and we’re pretty darn excited about it.
Never heard of a MEGA #OhmHour?
MEGA #OhmHours are specific times of the day or week when demand on the energy grid is high (usually very hot days when everyone’s running their air conditioners and pool pumps at the same time) and the state is at risk of turning on a dirty, expensive backup power plant.
Essentially, if enough people reduce their energy usage at the same time, we can prevent this from happening … and the utility companies are willing to pay us for that effort!
How MEGA #OhmHours work and how you can participate:
- If you’re not yet an OhmConnect customer, sign up for a free account and connect your utility account (so we can measure your energy reductions and pay you for the savings.)
- Once you’re connected, you’ll receive MEGA #OhmHour notifications via SMS text or email, whichever you’d prefer.
- Each MEGA #OhmHour will come with a specific energy-saving goal, such as "use 1 kWh or less." These targets are tailored to your own personal energy use, so everyone has an equal chance of hitting the goal.
- During the MEGA #OhmHour, turn off your lights, give your thermostat a breather, or even flip that circuit breaker for maximum earnings!
- Get paid, and score an entry to win one of our MEGA prizes. You’ll receive an email within a few days of the MEGA #OhmHour to let you know if you were successful in beating your forecast and if so, points will be added to your account. Those points can be cashed out via Paypal.
What you can win this MEGA Summer
Aside from the collective impact we can have on the planet, one of our favorite parts of MEGA Summer is the weekly prize giveaway.
Every Sunday at 5PM PT, we’re live on Facebook, talking about exciting OhmConnect milestones and updates and announcing the usernames of the lucky winner (or winners) of that week’s prize - randomly selected from any user who’s qualified that week.
Prizes on the docket this year include cash giveaways, eco-trips to exotic locales, a chance to have your bills paid and so much more.
At the end of the summer, we’ll be choosing from a pool of users who’ve qualified at least three times for a weekly prize to give away the MEGA Summer Grand Prize: Your Energy Bill Paid for Life!
How to qualify for a MEGA Summer prize
There are three ways to qualify for a prize each week. You can either:
- Keep an eye out for MEGA #OhmHour notifications you receive. If you spot a MEGA #OhmHour in your inbox, take a close look at the goal set for you. If you achieve your goal, you will be put in the pool of others who did the same and names will be randomly selected as the reward recipients, OR you can
- Refer a new user to OhmConnect using your unique referral code. If they get to Silver Status and save energy with us during the qualification period, you’re in! OR
- Connect your first smart device to your OhmConnect account between June 1st and September 30th for a qualification during the week you connect.
