There are a few questions that we get pretty regularly on our social media channels, and we want to make sure that no good question goes unanswered. The biggies include:

  1. Is OhmConnect a scam?
  2. What is an #OhmHour? (If you’re wondering about the answer- check out this site.)
  3. How much can I earn with OhmConnect? (If you’re wondering about this one, check out this article)
  4. Katie and Greg from OhmConnect’s weekly live broadcast are so funny and good looking. Shouldn’t they get a raise?

… kidding! Nobody’s ever asked that last one, but we can dream, right?

Today, we want to break down the answer to that number one question; “Is OhmConnect a scam?”

And in short summary … it’s not!

But we might be able to guess what you’re thinking …

“Of course YOU’RE going to say it’s not a scam. That’s what all scammers say!”

And we totally get it. So to help back up our claim, here are some links to other organizations (not affiliated with us) who have done their own, independent research.

Is OhmConnect A Scam?

OhmConnect is a free service that rewards you for saving energy when it matters most to the grid and the environment. You will receive a notification about once per week to save energy for an hour. If you save energy, you receive cash.  In order to receive cash for saving energy, you will need to connect your utility account to OhmConnect.

What is an OhmHour?

#OhmHours are energy saving events, usually an hour in length, in which OhmConnect has committed to the grid that our users will save energy. During these events, our users save energy and help the grid avoid using dirty and inefficient ‘peaker’ power plants. Our community often uses this time to take a break from their hyperconnected lives and reconnect with family, friends, or with themselves.

How does OhmConnect work?

When the grid is stressed, either one of two things can happen:

1) Dirty and inefficient ‘peaker’ power plants can turn on or

2) people can save energy.

A growing number of states and municipalities would prefer to pay people for saving energy because it’s cheaper, cleaner, and puts money back in the pockets of community members.

That’s where OhmConnect comes in! OhmConnect coordinates and combines the energy savings across thousands of households and small businesses when it matters most to the grid. The grid pays OhmConnect for those savings, and then OhmConnect passes along those payments to participants.

This is why you are required to connect your utility account to receive cash for participating: OhmConnect must measure your energy savings to receive payments from the grid operators.

How can I participate?

Your first step is to go to this page and create a basic account with us. This includes your email address, your zip code (so we can identify your utility), and set an OhmConnect password.

Please also add your mobile phone number on the Connect page if you haven’t already included it, as it’s the best way to be notified about OhmHour events.  You can add additional phone numbers if there are other people in your household who should be notified about #OhmHours.

Happy earning!
