# Troubleshooting Your Nest Thermostat

## Is your Nest Thermostat not behaving the way you would expect? Follow this guide to resolve the issue. 

To determine and solve the issue you're experiencing, attempt the first option listed. If that is unsuccessful, continue through the following options. 

### Restart Your Nest Thermostat

Some of the most common issues can be fixed with a simple restart. Restarting your Nest Thermostat will retain all your settings, similar to restarting a computer, phone, or tablet. It's a useful course of action if your thermostat is frozen, has trouble connecting to the internet, or is not functioning correctly.   
  

1.  Press the thermostat ring to bring up the Quick View menu.  
      
    
2.  Select 'Settings'.  
      
    
3.  Select 'Reset'.  
      
    
4.  Choose 'Restart'.  
      
    
5.  Turn the ring to confirm and press 'OK' to restart your thermostat.  
      
    

If your thermostat is still not responsive or frozen, follow these steps to manually restart:   
  

1.  Press and hold the ring on your thermostat until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds). Then release the ring.  
      
    
2.  Press and release the ring again to turn it back on and complete the restart process. You’ll see the Nest icon when it begins to start up and the display will turn on when complete. 

  

### Reset Your Network Settings

If you recently installed a new wireless network or changed your Wi-Fi network name or password, you will need to reset the network settings to reflect the changes.   
  

1.  Press the ring on your thermostat to pull up the Quick View menu.  
      
    
2.  Select 'Settings'.  
      
    
3.  Select 'Reset'.  
      
    
4.  Choose 'Network'.  
      
    
5.  Select 'Reset' to confirm.

### Factory Reset

A factory reset will return your device to its initial state and factory settings. Think of it as a fresh start!   
  

1.  Press the ring on the thermostat to pull up the Quick View menu.  
      
    
2.  Select 'Settings'.  
      
    
3.  Select 'Reset'.  
      
    
4.  Choose 'All Settings'.  
      
    
5.  You will be prompted to confirm that you wish to erase all settings and return to factory defaults. Choose 'Reset'.  
      
    
6.  Turn the ring to confirm and press 'OK'.   
      
    

**To note:** Taking the above steps will erase all user-added information on your thermostat, such as schedules, and Wi-Fi details. Following a factory reset, you will need to configure and set-up the thermostat from scratch.
