## If you're a new member with OhmConnect, here is a guide that will walk you through how to participate!
### Smart Devices
The more smart devices you link to your account, the more you'll earn. When you connect and link smart devices, such as smart plugs and smart thermostats, you participate without lifting a finger. During OhmHours and AutoOhms, your linked devices will automatically power down and power back back up when the event is over. Members who participate with smart home devices earn an average of 3X the rewards during energy-saving events. Smart plugs earn 10 Watts for every 15 minute increment that they remain off and participate during and event, whereas smart thermostats earn 80 Watts for every 15 minutes they participate! If you do not have smart devices you are still able to participate and earn during AutoOhm events. Prior to an event, ensure that appliances are powered down!
### OhmHours
OhmHours are our energy-saving events. Members receive one (sometimes more) event per week, and are asked to power down and save energy when the grid is stressed. You will receive an event notification the day prior to the event, and a reminder shortly before the event begins. Participating is easy! Based on how much energy you saved, you’ll earn Watts, which is the OhmConnect currency. Your energy-savings are calculated based on your historical use supplied by your smart meter.
### AutoOhms
AutoOhms are a seamless way to participate when the grid needs you. If you link smart devices (like a smart thermostat or smart plug) to your OhmConnect account, we will power your devices down when the event begins, and power them back on hen the event ends. You will earn Bonus Watts for each device that is linked to your account! If you do not have smart devices linked to your account you can still take part in AutoOhms. When you receive a notification, prior to an AutoOhm event, ensure that appliances are turned off or unplugged to maximize your earnings!
**To note:** AutoOhms will not negatively impact your streak, status, or earnings!
