## Understanding Smart Device Participation

The more smart devices you have, the more energy you’ll save, and the more money you'll earn.

During OhmHours and AutoOhms, your linked devices, such as smart plugs and smart thermostats, will automatically be powered down prior to the event, and powered back on when the event is over.

**Note:** If you have a Nest thermostat, and you are enrolled in [Google’s Rush Hour Rewards program](https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9232355?hl=en), your device will be adjusted and show "Rush Hour" for the duration of the event, and will return to its previous settings when the event is over.

Here is a quick checklist to run through prior to an event to ensure you earn Watts for your device participation:

* Your linked smart plugs are ON at least 30 minutes before the event.

* Your smart thermostats are set to the ON state at least 30 minutes before the event.

* There are no issues with your Wi-Fi connection.

* Your smart devices are visible on your OhmConnect dashboard under 'Devices' and show no error signs.

Keep in mind, the more devices you have linked to your account the more Watts you will earn. A smart plug earns 10 Watts for every 15 minutes the device participates, whereas a smart thermostat earns 80 Watts for every 15 minutes it participates.
